CHINA will be providing scholarships and training for state media operatives, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy said.
On Monday, Minister Kwame McCoy held discussions with Deputy Chief of Missions of the Chinese Embassy in Guyana, Chen Xilai.
“I believe that it was a good meeting and we have always relied on the Chinese government to assist us in many projects. They have been a very good partner to the Government of Guyana over the years,” Minister McCoy noted.
Mr. Xilai said the two countries have a lot of potential that can be cultivated, especially since Guyana is an oil-producing nation and its economy will grow exponentially.
“We discussed scholarship opportunities provided by the Chinese government and we discussed probable future cooperation in different agencies under his leadership,” the deputy chief of missions said.
He explained that currently, the Chinese Embassy is engaging many sectors of the new administration to inquire the priorities as the Chinese government would be willing to provide assistance for the national development of Guyana.
“Once they have made up their mind and come up with a proposal, the two sides can have a discussion and we can come up with more details of the kind of cooperation needed. We have been cooperating with Guyana for over 48 years and the relationship between Guyana and China is very good, and we would like to see the cooperation advanced in the future,” the deputy chief of missions said.
He explained China has a lot of experiences it can share with Guyana as a developing country. “It’s our honour to cooperate with Guyana so that it can bring more benefits to the two countries.”
Adding that China’s policy is people’s centric, the deputy chief of missions said all benefits should focus on the livelihood of the general public as China has the technology, human resources and will power to assist in development.
