FORMER Prime Minister of Barbados, Owen Arthur, is reportedly in critical condition having suffered a heart attack on July 15 and is being kept alive with a ventilator, well-placed sources told the Guyana Chronicle on Sunday.
On July 15, Barbados Today reported that Arthur had been placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following the heart attack but was said to be in stable condition. Unfortunately however, over the past few days his condition worsened.
He was last reported to be a patient at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Arthur, 71, was the country’s longest-serving prime minister and retired from public life in 1998. Earlier this year he was appointed Chairman of the financially strapped airline, LIAT.
He also headed the 11-member Commonwealth Observer Mission for Guyana’s Elections in March. The mission observed pre-elections, elections and post-elections activities.
