With immense love for her culture, and understanding the mechanism of melanin skin, young Nigerian woman, Dr. Deborah Oluwadara Kehinde has been promoting her brand in Guyana, which caters to the beauty and skincare needs of women of colour.
In an interview with ‘The Buzz’, the 27-year-old woman said that she started her business five years ago in Guyana, to give Guyanese the experience of the real African culture.
Her online-based business, Rhoda Doxa African Skincare, African Cuisine, Fashion & Beauty, has been doing wonders in the Afro-Guyanese community.
Kehinde said that being a woman of colour herself, she understands the challenges faced, and that is part of the reason she focuses solely on women of the African race.
“I am a woman of colour and I have firsthand experience on our challenges and I want to fix that. A lot of mainstream brands want our black dollar but they don’t want to give us quality stuff. First of all, every black woman is a queen. And I want every black woman to feel like the queen they are, providing quality products that are worth their money,” the young woman told ‘The Buzz’.
Being the daughter from a family of pastors, Kehinde is passionate about preaching, fashion, making people happy and making money, which are key attributes that allow her business to thrive.
She said that because she genuinely loves what she does, the energy she puts into her brand is therapeutic, and it keeps her on track to achieving her ultimate goal of being the best version of herself.
“I aspire every day to always be better than yesterday, and of course I want to be on Forbes’ List to be a Billionaire and having free top hospitals in several parts of the world,” Kehinde said jovially.

Sharing where her journey started, Kehinde said that she started off being a fashion brand that brought quality African fabric and attires, straight from Nigeria. However, last year she decided to launch the skincare line due to a personal experience and also feedback on the lack of products that cater to melanin skin.
She further pointed out that for differing reasons, like a woman’s menstrual cycle, or a particular food or makeup product, may cause a woman’s skin to have breakouts. However, not all mainstream skincare products are suitable for melanin skin, and her skincare line caters to that.
“I have very dry skin and other moisturizers don’t work for my skin except for petroleum jelly. A few years ago, I went back to Nigeria and asked my mom to buy me Shea Butter… She sent me a big container of recent and I made a moisturizer which worked for my skin and that was a game-changer and I want to share that with the rest of the world. Also when I came back with the Shea Butter a few years ago, I fell ill and I lost my hair and the Shea butter helped my hair to grow back,” Kehinde disclosed.
Explaining the products her brand has to offer and the multiple benefits to the African community, the young entrepreneur said that her line is organic, 100 percent pure, natural, unrefined and imported from Africa.

In addition to her fashion line and skincare line, there is also the beauty line which provides makeup products for women of colour.
The young woman explained that the elements in these products have been lab-tested and proven to care for melanin skin.
“Personally, I love complimenting people. There is something beautiful about each person just pointing that out to a fellow sister, can make a permanent change. At Rhoda Doxa, we know when people look good, they feel good. Like our skincare line, we sell natural products which are the best for the skin, our beauty line products are perfect for melanin beauty if they want to glam up,” she said.
