A man who recently travelled to the town of Mahdia in the Potaro-Siparuni from the North West District, has tested positive for the Coronavirus.
The case is the first recorded in Region Eight.
Reports are that the man left Moruca, the hot-spot for the virus in Region One, two weeks ago for Mahdia to visit a friend.He visited the hospital at the town after complaining of feeling unwell.
He was immediately placed in quarantine after medical officials questioned him about his travel history.His test samples were returned on Friday and medical officials at Mahdia are expected to carry out contact tracing to stem the spread of the virus there.
Guyana has recorded 256 cases of the pandemic since the first case was reported in March this year.At the moment, there are 125 active cases of the disease.
