A MAN, who fatally stabbed his brother, was charged with the capital offence, on Wednesday, when he appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.

Forty-four-year-old  Khemlall Bishnauth, a Labourer of Lot 173 Shieldstown, West Coast Berbice, was not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that, on May 30, he murdered his brother, Sardanand Bishnauth, called “Long hair”.

According to information, on the day in question, the victim was in a hammock eating when an argument erupted between him and his brother. At that stage Khemlall allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Sardanand in the chest. The man collapsed and died shortly after. The siblings’ father told the media he was baffled as to what led to the killing, but mentioned that the accused would constantly imbibe.

A post-mortem conducted by pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, gave the cause of death as stab wound to the chest. “Khemlall” was remanded to prison and will make his second court appearance on July 1.
