A 29-year-old motorcyclist, Shawn Andrew Burrows, died on Wednesday following an accident on the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
The father of one, who lived at Young Street, Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, was reportedly on his way home on his motorcycle bearing registration CH 7915 when he met his demise.
According to police, around 15:30hrs Burrows was riding his motorcycle at a fast rate along the roadway in a southerly direction.It is alleged that while negotiating a slight bend on the roadway, he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the concrete median.
As a result of the collision, Burrows was flung into the air and landed on the road surface some distance away where he sustained injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by a public spirited citizen and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty.He died while receiving treatment.
The man’s family members are contending that he was not speeding and they are currently awaiting closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the police. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
