THE body of a man of African descent that Police removed from the Church Street trench, in close proximity to Peter Rose Street, on March 17, 2020, has been identified.
The victim is Rown Tappin, a resident of Sophia, whose body was identified by his wife, according to Commander `A’ Division, Phillip Azore.
Tappin was clothed in a white tee shirt, pants and boots and a birth certificate was in one of the pockets.
A post-mortem examination was conducted on the body and the cause of death was recorded as drowning.
The commander said while they had no further details, the investigation has not been closed as they would still like to find out what led to the man drowning in the trench.
Contacted on the evening the body was discovered, the commander told the Guyana Chronicle that the police had received a call via the Emergency 911 line around 17:45 hrs. Ranks proceeded to the area, cordoned off the scene and proceeded to extract the body as a small crowd of curious onlookers gathered.
