DIRECTOR of Regional Health Services, Jevaughn Stephen, has denied that there is a confirmed case of the coronavirus at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

The Guyana Chronicle was informed that a 70-year-old woman from New York died after almost two months of being under doctors’ supervision.

Following the elderly woman’s death, a post-mortem last Thursday revealed that the cause of death was given as haemorrhagic bronchopneumonia, which is inflammatory consolidation of the lung. Body samples of the woman have since been submitted for laboratory analysis.

The director revealed that the daughter of the deceased woman lives in Connecticut and New York and has since travelled to Guyana. The daughter has been described as asymptomatic (a carrier of a disease or infection who experiences no symptoms).

On Wednesday, Guyana recorded its first case of imported coronavirus (COVID- 19). The patient, a 52-year-old woman who died here had travelled from the U.S.
