– four others to face charges today
THE police have issued a wanted bulletin for Daniel McLennon, called “Dutty”, for questioning in relation to the murder of Lomenzo Johnny between February 26-27 at Portuguese Quarters, Port Mourant.
McLennon, of Third Street Swamp Section, Rose Hall, is said to be the mastermind in Johnny’s murder. Four others, who have all been arrested, have since confessed to their involvement into the murder-robbery.
They are expected to appear at a Berbice magistrate’s court today. The Guyana Chronicle understands that while the entire plot to rob the businessman was well-orchestrated, after he recognised two of his assailants, he was battered and left to die. Of the four in custody, two are said to have only cut the safe open, while the other played a significant role.
The body of the Lomenzo Johnny, 49, was discovered in a clump of bushes at around 07:45 hrs on a farm at area ‘AA’, Portuguese Quarters, Port Mourant, a short distance from where he lived. He was last seen alive at around 19:30 hrs on the evening of February 26 as he made his way through the street for his routine exercise.
His body was found, feet bound with a black lacing, severe wounds to his head, injury to the left eye and strangulation marks on the neck. There were also wounds on his back and bruises on his hands.
About four feet away from his body lay a pair of red-and-black sneakers, a pair of scissors, and a piece of wood about three feet in length. After committing the act, the killers took Johnny’s house keys and after gaining entry into the premises, proceeded to ransack it and carry away a safe, leaving his cellphones and ‘tablet’ untouched. Police subsequently found a .25 pistol with 28 live rounds of ammunition in one of the house’s bedrooms.
Investigators attached to the Whim Police Station were reportedly able to crack the case early last week after intense interrogation, they were able to recover the safe from where it was dumped in a trench in Williamsburg backlands.
Approximately $2M was also recovered from the suspects.
