Motie returns to Jaguars colours for important Round 6 clash

… Akshay Persaud also included

LEFT-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie was named in Guyana Jaguars 13-man squad ahead of tomorrow’s start to Round 6 of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional 4-Day Tournament.

The Jaguars who are currently in Jamaica, battle the number 3 positioned Scorpions in a return grudge match; having defeated the defending champions back in Round 4 at the Providence stadium

Motie, a former West Indies U-19 player was recalled after not being named in the side for the first half of the tournament.

With 29 1st class matches under his belt, the Berbician is just one away from 100 wickets at this level and given his phenomenal record of 4 5-wicket hauls and a career-best of 11-105, it’s possible that he could play a huge role over the next few days.

Akshay Persaud was also named in the 13 as leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo misses out this round, making Motie’s spot in the starting XI almost certain.

After playing in the last round, West Indies batsman Shimron Hetmyer will also miss this round after passing his fitness test and being recalled to the team for the Sri Lanka T20s.

Guyana Jaguars Team reads:

Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Leon Johnson, Christopher Barnwell, Raymon Reifer, Kevin Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Vishaul Singh, Anthony Bramble, Akshay Persaud, Niall Smith and Keon Joseph. (Clifton Ross)
