WILLEMSTAD, Curacao (CMC) – Curacao and Guadeloupe impressed in their opening matches of 2020 CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying on Tuesday, earning clean sheet wins to open Group C at the Ergilio Hato Stadium here.

Six different players contributed to Guadeloupe’s 6-0 thrashing of Belize in their match, the first of the day.

Dustin Bourgeois started the scoring in the 18th minute, followed by scores from Willcyd Janky in the 33rd, Menael Lorquin in the 38th and Josue Casimir in the 42nd to give the French-speaking nation a 4-0 halftime lead.

Goals from Aymerik Kissy and Yoann Lunion, in the 57th and 78th minutes, respectively, gave their side a total of six reasons to smile, while Belize ended the encounter with nary a goal to show for it.

In the day’s second match, Curacao blanked Saint Martin 5-0, with Joshua Zimmerman scoring a hat-trick in the first 10 minutes.

Zimmerman struck in the second, fourth and eighth minutes before yielding scoring duties to Tyrese Noslin, who added the fourth 13 minutes into the game.

It was a goal by Lentini Caciano in extra time that capped the victory for the hosts.

Guadeloupe and Curacao each earned three points for their wins, to share top place in the standings of Group C.

Today, Guadeloupe and Saint Maarten will go up against each other in the first match of a doubleheader at the Ergilio Hato Stadium that includes a face-off between Belize and Curacao.

Two days later, Belize and Saint Martin will compete on the field, before Curacao and Guadeloupe do battle as Group C matches continue.

In Group A, Nicaragua and Guyana lead on six points each, having both won their two games. St Vincent and the Grenadines, US Virgin Islands and Montserrat are not yet off the mark.

On Monday, Guyana marched to their second straight win in a 3-0 final over St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Osafa Simpson was the key figure for the Golden Jaguars, as he scored on each side of halftime to give Guyana a 2-0 lead.

Omari Glasgow, who scored in Guyana’s opening win over Montserrat, then tallied for the second straight game in the 68th minute to complete the scoring.

The second match that day saw hosts Nicaragua take down Montserrat 4-0.

As in their opening win against the US Virgin Islands, Nicaragua raced to a fast start and were up 1-0 through Harold Medina in the fourth minute, followed by a goal from Edry Centeno 14 minutes later.

Medina hit pay dirt again later in the half in the 31st minute, lifting Nicaragua to a comfortable lead with still almost a full hour to play. Centeno then notched his fifth goal of the tournament to extend Nicaragua’s lead.

Action in Groups B and D began last evening with matches between Grenada and Dominica, and hosts Dominican Republic and Anguilla (Group B) at Estadio Bayaguana; and Bermuda vs Barbados, and Puerto Rico vs Cayman Islands (Group D) at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.
