Woman dies in Linden Highway crash

A 50-year-old driver is in police custody after a woman was struck down and killed in the vicinity of the Moblissa Bridge on the Linden Highway at around 23:30hrs Wednesday.
The driver of the taxi, HD 119, is in Police custody as investigations continue. The deceased woman has not been identified. Reports indicate that the driver was heading to Georgetown, proceeding west along the southern side of the aforementioned road at a fast rate of speed when he saw a pedestrian crossing the road from North to South in his path.
On seeing this, he applied brakes to avoid a collision. However, the right side front of the car collided with the female pedestrian causing her to fall onto the bonnet then to the front windscreen and onto the road surface.

An ambulance was summoned and she was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the linden hospital complex where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The body of the woman is at the Wismar Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post- mortem examination. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver which found that he was below the limit.
