THE 29-year-old General Manager of Aruwai Resort is currently in police custody, for allegedly swindling the company of over $1.8 million dollars.
Lucresha Charles of First Ally Hill Foot, Wismar, Linden, while being a clerk or servant of the resort at Track ‘A’ Buck Island, Mazaruni River, allegedly stole $1,816,190, between September 17, 2018, and December 19, 2019.
Enquiries disclosed that Charles was hired to work as the general manager at the resort on September 17, 2018.
It is alleged that Charles, while employed there, was authorised to void bills using an account only she had access to.
On 17th December, 2019, the owner of Aruwai resort, Mr. Baboolall, authorised an audit be done at his establishment and sent Charles on administrative leave, for two weeks, pending investigations.
The audit revealed that Charles had voided a total of 271 bills which valued over $1.8M.
The Managing Director and Consultant at Aruawai resort, Mr. Dax Singh, contacted Charles on January 11, 2020, via email requesting an explanation for the voided bills and money not accounted for.
The next day, Charles responded and explained why she voided the bills and stated that she had not stolen any money.
On January 15, 2020, Charles was contacted by a police at Aruwai Resort where the allegation was levelled against her, and, under caution, she denied.
Charles was escorted to Bartica Police Station where she was placed in custody pending investigation.
