Guyanese in Cuba to observe 50th Republic Anniversary

THE Guyana Embassy in Havana, Cuba, will be hosting several activities to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

In the Guyanese tradition, those activities will begin with a Prayer Service at the Guyana Embassy on Wednesday, January 15 at 16:oo hours and will include visits to various Provinces, including Cienfuegos, where the Founder of the Republic, then Prime Minister LFS Burnham, met with Comandante Fidel Castro, Leader of the Cuban Revolution, in April 1975.

Other activities would involve the placing of a Floral Arrangement at the Caribbean Heroes Park in Havana, hosting of the Republic Day observance at the Laguito Protocol Salon, a Photographic and Book Exhibition, a Rum Tasting Event at the La Foresta Restaurant, and a Special Visit to the Province of Matanzas organized by the Provincial Government.
Over the past week, the staff of the Embassy, led by Executive Officer, Ms. Millicent Rose, devoted a lot of time to decorating the exterior of the Embassy, assisted by Cuban artistes.
Guyana officially became the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on February 23, 1970.
