A female journalist attached to a newspaper in Guyana has made sexual harassment claims against a senior member of the Guyana Police Force.
The incident which reportedly took place in November 2019 is engaging the attention of the Police Force. Guyana Chronicle has been informed that the officer is attached to the Force’s headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
Reports indicate that the incident reportedly took place after the journalist approached the officer seeking information on an operation he oversaw.
Commissioner of Police Leslie James on Friday said the matter is being investigated and the police public relations officer will issue a statement to the press. “The Guyana Police Force is currently investigating a report of alleged sexual assault, allegedly committed by a senior officer on a journalist,” a statement from the Police Force subsequently said.
