FORMER People’s Progressive Party Civic top representative and Central Committee member, Allister Charlie, was, on Tuesday January 7, 2020 granted $200,000 bail by Magistrate Sherdel Isaac-Marcus, on two charges: sexual assault and perverting the course of justice.

Charlie appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and maintained his innocence, with respect to both charges, when they were read to him.

It is alleged that, between July 31, 2019 and August 1, 2019, at Lethem, he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old boy.

It is further alleged that, on August 5, 2019, he attempted to pervert the course of justice.
Attorney-at-law Latchmi Rahamat, who represented Charlie, asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.

Magistrate Isaac-Marcus granted Charlie $150,000 on the sexual assault charge and $50,000 on the other charge. The matter was adjourned until January 31, 2020, and transferred to the Lethem Magistrates’ Court.

According to information, the teenager, attended a party at Charlie’s residence. The teen was then taken to a nearby bar and was allegedly given alcohol laced with ecstasy.
Charlie and the teen were videoed with their pants and underwear down, and Charlie allegedly touched the teen’s genitals. This was done in the presence of other persons who were seen laughing.

A man, known to the family of the teen, was passing the bar at the time, and reportedly intervened, and started recording the incident. The teen was subsequently taken to his grandmother’s residence.

The matter was reported, an investigation was launched, and Charlie was arrested and later charged.
