AT the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) awards presentation and dinner on Thursday December 18, 2019, at the Pegasus Hotel, Namilco and its Managing Director, Bert Sukhai, as well as, KSM Investments Inc., were the recipients of prestigious awards
According to a release, Namilco was awarded the President’s Award, in recognition of the company’s 50 years of service to the Guyanese people, while Sukhai won the prestigious President’s Lifetime Award.
KSM Investments Inc., a four-year-old local company owned and managed by former journalist, Mahadeo Panchu and family, copped the GMSA 2019 President’s Award, “in recognition of KSM supplying a critical need in the construction sector, by raising the bar through the production of a wide –ranging variety of quality concrete products.”

Namilco, the release stated, has made tremendous strides under Sukhai’s stewardship, moving from producing one basic bread and roti flour to multiple specialty flour and mixes. The company also produces customised flour, as requested by bakers.
In 2009, Namilco acquired ISO certification and is now working towards a Food Safety Certification though they already have YUM food safety certification, specifically to supply flour to Pizza Hut in Guyana and Suriname.
This year, Mr. Sukhai celebrated his 25th anniversary at Namilco, as the company is also celebrating its 50th anniversary.
KSM with headquarters at Plot `MP’, 8 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, was established from scratch in what was once swamplands. Today, the company has exceeded expectations in the manufacture of a range of hollow and vent blocks, pavers and kerb stones, all of which are engineered to meet international standards, a company release stated.
The flagship investment by Panchu and family has indeed changed the dynamics and shifted the paradigm in Guyana’s budding construction sector, which is expected to undergo a massive transformation with the imminent oil wealth.
“Today, KSM’s numerous customers include the Government of Guyana and international contractors currently undertaking some of the largest private and public projects in Guyana, in addition to our many small, medium and large customers. Its EverLast Stone Pavers have been transforming the landscape and adding beauty and value to properties, in addition to modernising the country, the release added.
