CUSTOMS Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officers, on Thursday December 5, 2019, at approximately 23:00 hrs, interdicted a quantity of suspected bulk marijuana in a car at De Willem, West Coast Demerara.

In a press release, CANU said that Azim Ali, called Boyo, 30, of 27 Zeeburg, West Coast Demarara, has been taken into custody.

“Azim Ali (the driver of PPP 7790) along with three other known suspects, were transporting suspected cannabis in PPP 7790 when their vehicle was chased by CANU Ranks. The car was eventually intercepted in De Willem Village and a quantity of suspected narcotics was discovered in the vehicle,” the CANU release said. The weight of the suspected cannabis was given as 30.902 kilograms.

CANU is still in search of the other three suspects, the release said.
