RAJENDRA Prabhulall was, on Wednesday, re-elected mayor of the Township of Anna Regina in the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region. He was re-elected at an internal election held in the boardroom of the Anna Regina Town Council.
Deputy Mayor, Rudolph Williams, also retained his post. Both men are representatives of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
Prabhulall took his oath after which he thanked the council for having confidence in him for a second term as mayor. He said his first-term in office was very challenging, noting that the council is currently cash-strapped and due to financial difficulties, many projects could not be executed.
He said it is his desire for the town of Anna Regina to continue to develop and prosper.
The council is currently cash-strapped and employees are not paid their November salaries. The mayor said the council has millions of dollars outstanding in rates and taxes and therefore urged businesses and vendors to pay up their taxes. He said, once the outstanding monies are paid to the council, services in the township will be efficient.
