Man granted bail for wounding

A 30-year-old fish vendor was on Tuesday granted $70,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for unlawful wounding.

Davendra Kumar of Albouystown appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Particulars of the charge stated that on November 11, 2019, at Regent Street, he wounded Terrence Forde with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.

“We was having a few drinks at a rum shop and he tell me about my wife and he push me. I gone in the market and he come and was still telling me about my wife, but I will pay him some money cause he ask me to pay and end the matter” Kumar said.

Facts presented in court stated that, Kumar and Forde are workmates and on the day in question Forde confronted Kumar on Regent Street. The men had an argument and Kumar whipped out a knife, stabbed Forde to the chest and fled.

The court heard that Kumar was arrested the following day at Bourda market, and was later charged.

Magistrate McLennan granted Kumar $70,000 bail and adjourned the matter until November 27, 2019.
