FOUR days of exciting swimming splashes off this afternoon when Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) holds its National Short Course Swimming Championship at the National Aquatic Centre in Liliendaal.
According to information from the association, swimmers from several of the country’s top clubs will compete.
Among the clubs are Dolphin Speed Swim Club, Dorado Speed Swim Club, Orca Speed Swim Club, Silver Sharks Aquatic Swim Club and Swim Academy Sea Otters.
The event, which is expected to attract a number of national swimmers, will start at 15:30hrs with an hour-long warm-up session before swimmers compete in the 200m Individual Medley (IM) and the 100m breaststroke.
Tomorrow there will be two sessions. After a 06:00hrs warm-up, swimmers will compete in the 1500m freestyle (males), before the ladies take to the pool for the 800m freestyle. The swimmers will also compete in the 200m butterfly in the morning session.
At 13:00hrs there will be another hour-long warm-up session before swimmers compete in the 400m IM, the 100m backstroke, the 50m butterfly, the 200, breaststroke and the 50m freestyle.
There is just an afternoon session on Sunday. After an hour-long warm-up, swimmers will hit the pool from 14:00hrs to compete in the 400m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke.
The competition is expected to conclude on Monday afternoon with the 50m backstroke from 16:30hrs, followed by 200m freestyle.
