FORMER Acting Chief Justice, Ian Neville Chang, died on Saturday evening at a private hospital in Georgetown after losing a battle with cancer.
At the time of his passing, he was a patient at the Balwant Singh Hospital where he was being treated.
Meanwhile, His Excellency, David Granger said he was saddened at the death of Justice Chang. Justice Chang, last served as acting Chief justice from 2000 to 2015. President Granger extends heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, relatives and friends.
Justice Chang, during his tenure, presided over many high profile, controversial and constitutional cases in Guyana.
He served as acting Chief Justice for more than a decade. He went off on annual leave in December 2015 ahead of his February 2016 retirement.
Ian Chang was also former Acting DPP and former Justice of Appeal.
Lawyers agreed that Chang love to write judgements that were difficult, challenging, complex and controversial.
