… Guyana to face Aruba tonight

COLCHESTER United’s Callum Harriot and Stevenage F.C. defender Terence Vancooten will make a return to Guyana since their showing in the country’s first CONCACAF Gold Cup appearance in June.

For Fruta Conquerors’ Vurlon Mills, it will be his first game since October 2018, when they feature for the Golden Jaguars tonight against Aruba.

Guyana will face Aruba from 21:00hrs at the National Track and Field Centre, in their penultimate CONCACAF Nations League (League B, Group C) game and will close things off against Jamaica on November 18.

At a press conference yesterday at the Pegasus Hotel, coach Marcio Maximo told reporters that the composition of the team is in keeping with his competitive blend of local- and overseas-based players, adding that the inclusion of Vancooten and Harriot shows that he’s open to working with everyone in the interest of Guyana’s football and building Golden Jaguars into a formidable side.

Guyana had opened their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 win over Aruba, but had lost at home to Jamaica in their second game (0-4) and away to Antigua (1-2).

Golden Jaguars later thrashed the Benna Boys 5-1 in their last fixture which was played at home and are now facing Aruba to cement their second-place spot in Group C in their bid to once against qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Jamaica sit comfortably on top of the Group – undefeated so far – but according to coach Maximo, in tonight’s game against Aruba, Guyana will be going all out to close the goal-difference tally with the Jamaicans.

Akel Clarke, Sese Norville and Canada-based Quillan Roberts are the goalkeepers called by Maximo.

In defence, Maximo will have Sam Cox, Matthew Briggs, Kevin Layne, Raphael Edwards, Kadell Daniel, Sherwin Skeete and Vancooten to choose from, while in the midfield, Mills, Delwin Fraser, Clive Nobrega, Anthony Benfield and Daniel Wilson could be chosen to start.

Harriot could have Sheldon Holder, Emery Welshman, Trayon Bobb, Nicholas McArthur and Keanu Marsh-Brown.
