Mayor of Purcellville, Virginia, Kwasi Fraser on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Karen Cummings.

They discussed an initiative to foster collaboration between the town of Purcellville, the state of Virginia and the Co-operative Republic of Guyana.

Minister Cummings expressed her gratitude to Mr. Fraser, a Guyanese by birth, for his interest and noted that the Government was committed to is delivering a better standard of living and quality of life to Guyanese. Mr. Fraser, in turn, shared that he was committed to making available the intellectual capital and resources at his disposal to ensure the successful transfer of knowledge and skills to Guyanese.

Meanwhile, Fraser also met with Minister of State, Mrs. Dawn Hastings- Williams at the Presidency. Mr. Fraser is currently working alongside the town of Linden to share expertise and best practices in the areas of strategic alignment and comprehensive planning and development.

Minister Hastings- Williams made a request for additional partnerships to be developed with the others towns across the country, particularly the four new towns that were gazetted by President David Granger. Fraser on Wednesday concluded a week-long trip to Guyana during which he sought to explored the possibility of forming a town twinning arrangement with Linden and establish close cooperation with the city of Georgetown on comprehensive planning and zoning. He indicated that his visit stemmed from a discussion with the Senator of Virginia, Richard H. Black, on the Guyana’s future in light of the recent discovery of hydro-carbons. Through cooperation, they hope to highlight alternate revenue streams to the oil and gas sector in addition to opportunities within the information technology realm.
