
SCORES of Guyanese, mostly youths, presented themselves on Thursday as viable candidates for the oil and gas sector at a Career Fair and Training Workshop hosted by manpower provider, El Dorado Offshore (EDO).
The event took place at Parc Rayne on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) and was also attended by representatives of Stena Drilling, SBM Offshore, NALCO Champion, Frank’s International and Oceaneering. EDO supplies a wide range of manpower, recruitment and personal logistics services to the oil and gas industry. EDO Business Development Director, Marisca Jordan told the newspaper that the company was looking for skilled, enthusiastic Guyanese to work both offshore and onshore.
“Today is basically accepting resumes. Remember, not everybody that comes will have everything together, so we advise how you can add to it before you can get any position [and] it doesn’t have to be offshore positions, we do onshore positions as well,” she said.
The company is looking for able-bodied seamen and ordinary seamen, roustabouts, deckhands, cooks and more.
While EDO also provides the services of medical emergency support, expatriate management and work permit and immigration, should the Company come into contact with persons skilled in the areas, they will be placed into a database of possible persons for future hire.

Meanwhile, the workshop aspect will see the attendees gathering in groups to be sensitised on how to properly write a resume, offshore employment opportunities and upward mobility, what to expect when working offshore, the training required offshore and working for EDO. “It gives you interaction with the clients; you go get to speak with the team to understand better what you need as a person to get involved; if you don’t have everything, how you build your resume; how to even write a proper resume,” Jordan said.
Some 250 Guyanese are part of EDO and all of its employees are locals. This marks the second such Career Fair and Training Workshop to be hosted by EDO and Jordan stated that the event proves to be a successful means of scouting skilled Guyanese. EDO also conducts mini fairs which see them visiting communities and technical institutes across the country.
