MALTEENOES Sports Club (MSC) cricketer, Clarence Baird, has had a relatively impressive stint in the UK, given that he has been selected to play in the Minor Counties Cricket Championships (played on Saturdays) next season.

The top-order batsman, who played two different competitions over the weekends during his time in England, is scheduled to return to Guyana tomorrow.

Baird played for Gore Court in Kent League Division Two on Saturdays and for High Wycombe Cricket Club in the Buckinghamshire League (privately sponsored) on Sundays.

For Gore Court, he scored 355 runs in 13 innings, at an average of 27.31. He managed to score two half centuries.  He scored 52 against table toppers, Bexley Cricket Club, while he scored 74 against Gravesend.

In the Sunday League, Baird proved to be more productive. The local first division cricketer scored 422 runs from nine innings, at an average of 48 runs.  Four of his nine innings were half centuries. He had scores of 81, 69, 93 and 52.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE
According to the 20-year-old, his second year in the UK has been relatively fruitful.

“It’s been a massive learning experience to be playing in the UK. Over the last two years, I have gained a lot of experience and played a lot more cricket.”

Next year, he is scheduled to play only for High Wycombe Cricket Club. He would play in the county- sponsored games on Saturday and the privately sponsored games on Sunday.

“I am really looking forward to my upcoming season playing minor counties premier; also, I am looking to make a massive impact in the Malteenoes squad from next weekend.”

Baird left Guyana in May to play in the leagues.
