TWO persons are hospitalised after a car collided with a minibus on the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast at around 17:00 hours on Wednesday.

According to eyewitnesses, they heard a loud impact and when they came out they saw a car and a minibus in a nearby trench.

The vehicles were reportedly heading in the opposite direction. Reports indicate that the driver of the car, whose name was given as “Tony” of Reliance, was going to pick up his daughter from classes when the bus came into his pathway.

Eyewitnesses said due to the impact of the hit, both vehicles ended up in the trench. Persons rushed to the scene and assisted the passengers from the car.

A female passenger, who was injured, was immediately rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital by the Regional Executive Officer, Denis Jaikarran, who was in the vicinity of the scene of the accident.

Police visited the scene and efforts were made to pull both vehicles out of the trench. The accident caused a huge build-up of traffic. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
