ON Friday, November 1, 2019, a 22-year-old murder suspect was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Lashawn Lewis of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that, on October 5, 2019, while in the company of others at La Penitence, Georgetown, he discharged a firearm, with intent to murder Teon Alleyne also known as ‘spoil child’.
The young man was represented by Attorney-at-law Gordon Gilhuys, who, in an unsuccessful bail application stated that his client knew nothing about the allegations made against him.
Gilhuys added that his client was shot in the back by an unknown person and suffered injuries to the spinal area. He also stated that the bullet was still lodged in his client and his movements were limited, hence he requires proper health care.
However, Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, objected to bail being granted, based on the seriousness of the offence.
He added that Lewis was a prime suspect in a murder and an attempted murder which occurred on September 28, 2019, in Linden.
Last week, 23-year-old Renard Caesar, a suspected member of a ‘Mob Family’, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was also remanded to prison for the same offence.
According to statements presented in court on the day in question, Alleyne was at the East La Penitence Market purchasing some vegetables when a black motorcar drove up next to him and stopped. Caesar and two other men exited the car and started shooting in Alleyne’s direction.
Magistrate McLennan remanded Lewis to prison until November 4, 2019.
