Farmer accused of several offences released on bail

A 24-year-old farmer, was, on Friday, November 1, 2019, arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Delon Richardson of Durban Street, Lodge, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied the allegations against him.

The first charge stated that, on October 28, 2019, at Friendship Squatting area, he used abusive language towards Arlitha Ruffino.
The second charge stated that, on the same day and at the same location, he used threatening language towards Arlitha Ruffino.

The final charge stated that, on the same day and at the same place he had 300 grams of cannabis, with intent to traffic.

According to statements presented by Police Prosecutor Brian Sukhna, on the day in question, the virtual complainant went to the police station to make a report that the defendant cursed her and threatened to chop her, if she continued to use his yard as a passageway.

The police were then led to the home where the defendant was staying. However, upon their arrival, a black plastic bag with leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be marijuana, was discovered.

The defendant was cautioned and admitted that the narcotics was his and someone gave it to him to sell.

Magistrate McLennan released the young farmer on $52,000 bail and transferred the matters to the Providence Magistrates’ Court for November 11 and November 22, 2019.
