THE Mayor and City Council (M&CC) of Georgetown is advising the general public to take the necessary precautions during the spring tide period from October 25, 2019, to October 30, 2019. It is predicted that above normal high tides should be expected.

According to a press release from the municipality’s Public Relations Office on Thursday, the council noted that its Engineer’s Department suggested that the following low-lying areas such as Lacytown, Albouystown, Alberttown, Riverview, Alexander Village, Werk-en-Rust, South and North Ruimveldt, and West and East Ruimveldt, may be at risk for flooding.

The release states that this is due to overtopping as a result of surges that rise above the sea defence structures. Therefore, persons must take the necessary precautionary measures.

Additionally, all vendors who operate within the precincts of the Stabroek Market are asked to take the necessary precautions to ensure that their goods are properly secured.

The release says the highest tides are expected on Sunday, October 27, 2019, between 02:55hrs to 15:33hrs, at a height of 3.29 metres and on Monday, October 28, 2019 between 03:43hrs and 16:13hrs, at a height of 3:31 metres. (DPI)
