TWENTY-THREE-year-old construction worker was, on Tuesday October 22, 2019, remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, for attempted murder.
Renard Caesar of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the charge.
Particulars of the charge stated that, on October 5, 2019, at La Penitence, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, he discharged a firearm at Teon Alleyne.
Attorney-at-law Gordon Gilhuys represented Caesar in the matter. Gilhuys told the court that, a murder allegation was never put to his client, and it was only before his client appeared in court that the police showed him a video and claimed that he was the person in the video, shooting at Alleyne.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers objected to bail being granted to Caesar based on the serious nature of the allegation. Jeffers also told the court that Caesar was a member of a ‘mob family’. On the day in question, Alleyne was at the East La Penitence Market purchasing some vegetables when a black motorcar drove up next to him and stopped. Caesar and two other men exited the car and started shooting in Alleyne’s direction.
Jeffers added that Alleyne ran and hid and the men made good their escape. The matter was reported, an investigation was launched and a wanted bulletin was issued for Caesar. Caesar subsequently turned himself in at the Mackenzie Police Station. Further investigation was carried out and Caesar was charged.
Magistrate McLennan, after listening to Jeffers, remanded Caesar to prison and adjourned the matter until October 31, 2019.
