Man alleges physical assault from wife

RESIDENT of Kuru Kuru on the Linden Soesdyke Highway, Joshua Josiah, is calling on members of the public to assist the Guyana Police Force with any information on the whereabouts of his wife Joanna Omar, who according to him, physically assaulted him and his girlfriend and destroyed several items belonging to him.

Josiah stated that he and Omar are currently in the process of getting a divorce.
He related that, on October 15, 2019, himself and ex-wife Omar, had and alteration, where she had breached the restraining order that he had on her in an attempt to assault him. He related that, on the day in question, Omar, having knowledge of the restraining order, joined a taxi that he was in and began a conversation with him about his payment of child support. He said “I told her, we have agreement with the court, I’ll be making my payment through the court, if you find that I’m not making the payment on time, you can always go to the court or the police.”

He stated that the woman got heated and started to physically assault him, leaving him with several scratches on his face. Upon his request the taxi driver took them to the Kuru Kuru Police outpost. He related that while being there and awaiting an officer to deal with the matter, he noticed that Omar had left, and subsequently he received a call that informed him that she was at his home where she had cut his current girlfriend in her face with a cutlass.

In addition to the assault of his girlfriend, Josiah related that Omar also destroyed his chairs, toilet, sink, car, and many other household items totaling over $900,000 in damages. Josiah said that he had made a report at the police station, but no arrest has been made.

Josiah further related that his concern was not just for his safety but also for that of his children, saying, “my kids could be at danger, because she know charges could be brought against her, next thing you know she decide to hurt my kids or something, so that’s why I’m really concerned that the police are not doing more to catch her.”
