Foreign Minister discusses elections with E.U., US Ambassadors

MINISTER of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Karen Cummings, on Monday met separately with United States Ambassador to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Her Excellency Sarah-Ann Lynch, as well as with the Ambassador of the European Union, His Excellency Fernando Ponz Cantó.

The parties discussed ongoing cooperation and electoral assistance, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It said that Dr Cummings, highlighting the importance of the upcoming general elections scheduled for March 2020, gave the reassurance that the Guyana Government would remain impartial while allowing the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to finalize preparations.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Lynch gave her reassurance that all ongoing projects in Guyana, funded by the United States, would continue to be implemented as planned.
The EU ambassador was accompanied by members of an electoral exploratory mission.
