Tracy Smith wins National Costume Award at Miss Global International

– Guyanese beautify queen secures ‘Top 10’

Guyana’s representative at Miss Global International 2019, Tracy Smith had returned home and has done her country proud.

The Miss Global International Pageant began in 2004 and to date it is the first and only international beauty competition to be hosted in Jamaica.

The young queen, spent a few days on the island, networking and promoting herself and country, and did so the best of her ability.

Smith told ‘The Buzz’ that her experience in Jamaica was worthwhile. “All the training and persons I’ve have had a chance to meet was quite the pleasure. I’d always encourage young ladies to participate in pageantry for the right reasons and always ensure that they are mentally ready to compete. Be brave and always be yourself,” she said.

She ended the competition in top 10 out of 30 confirmed candidates, and also won the national costume award. The costume she wore was designed by Guyana’s own fashion icon Randy Madray, and was named “Rodeo of the Rupununi”.

It was a heavily embellished costume celebrating one of the most exciting celebrations and sports of the indigenous people of Guyana, Rodeo.

“Rodeo brings a rush, an adrenaline in the face of dangerous excitement that has been mastered by both men women and young people of the Interior Savannahs. I wore a leathery bodysuit with natural fiber trims paired with heavily embellish boots and accessories. The costume has a beautiful feathery back piece symbolic of the traditions and beauty of Savannah life,” Tracy described the costume as.

Additional, the young woman was shortlisted in the top five for talent. “I performed “this is me” from the greatest showman movie. It was choreographed by Kelton Jennings of Unique Arts Guyana, and I was trained in modeling, articulation and pageant preparation by Alicia Bess. I had two national gifts a 3D art painting by local artist Conrad Meertins and another a signed cricket bat by the National Cricket team, Guyana Amazon Warriors,” Smith shared.

The experience overall she said was exhilarating, and she is really grateful to have been afforded to opportunity to represent her home country.

Smith is currently enrolled at the University of the West Indies – St. Augustine Campus pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a Specialization in Oil, Gas, and Energy Management.

She’s a former student of St Rose’s High School, the University of Guyana and KDI School of Public Policy in South Korea where she received her degree in Public Policy (Regional, International and Sustainable Development).

Presently, Smith works as a Project Analyst at the United Nations Development Programme, Japan Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (JCCCP) Guyana.
Smith was also a contestant in the Miss World Guyana 2018 competition where she placed first runner up and emerged as the Beauty with a Purpose winner.
