… Transport gain first-innings lead against Bel Air

ANDREW Lyght Jr is in form and it showed when he put willow to leather at his home ground, Eve Leary, yesterday, on the opening day of the Georgetown Cricket Association-organised Noble House Seafoods, Second Division two-day cricket competition between Police and Everest Cricket Club (ECC).

Police won the toss and opted to take first strike.
With Lyght leading the charge, the home team were able to race to a whopping 323-9 from 61.5 overs.
Lyght, who featured in a 140-run second-wicket partnership with Chemroy Kendall, struck nine fours and eight sixes in a top score of 123 while Kendall, batting at three, added 58 (4×4, 3×6).

ECC opening bowler Rolex Payne and left-arm spinner Javed Rasheed were able to wrest back some control towards the middle and latter stages of the innings with the former getting four wickets, including that of Lyght (bowled) while Rasheed took three scalps, including that of Ameer Singh, who fell one short of his half-century. Khan had hit three sixes and a similar number of fours in his innings.

ECC, in reply, were struggling at 61-5 off 27 overs after Rocky Hutson bagged four scalps.
Only Ushardeva Balgobin had a start with 27 (2×4, 1×6), but he also fell victim to Hutson.
Meanwhile, at Queen’s College ground, a late start did not prevent Transport Sports Club (TSC) from gaining a first-innings lead against Bel Air Rubis II.
Bel Air won the toss and opted to take first strike, but they could muster only 86 before they were bowled out in 30 overs.

Only two Bel Air batsmen reached double figures, but none got to 20.
Leading the charge for Transport were off-spinner Rafael Singh and pacer Mark Baptiste, who finished with three wickets each. Medium pacer captain Shaun Massiah supported with two wickets.

In reply, TSC had reached 111-6 off 21 overs before play ended.
Leading the charge was Devaughn Nandan, who scored 69 after belting a whopping nine sixes and two fours in quick time.
In another fixture at the MYO ground, GDF had batted themselves to a comfortable 195-3 against the home team after a late start.

At the crease were Damion Waldron on 68 (6×4, 4×6) and Deamon Whitney on 51 (7×4, 1×6).
Randy Lindore who had opened the batting scored 49 runs (10×4).
