THE 22-year-old son of a Toshao was, on Tuesday October 15, 2019, arraigned before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Marvin Simon of Port Kaituma was informed of the first charge which stated that, on October 11, 2019, at Canal Bank Port Kaituma, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged an IPhone valued at $200,000, property of Anthony Weakes.
Particulars of the second charge stated that, on October 11, 2019, at another location in Port Kaituma, he assaulted police constable Stephon Nickle.
Particulars of the third charge stated that, on the same date and at the same location he damaged a police pants valued at $6000 and police shirt valued at $9000, property of Stephon Nickle.
Particulars of the fourth charge stated that, on the same date and at the same location he damaged a police pants valued at $6000 and police shirt valued at $9000, property of Anthony Weakes.
The fifth charge stated that, on the same date and at the same location, Simon assaulted Police Constable Anthony Weakes.
The sixth charge stated that, on the following day at the same location he resisted arrest.
The seventh charge stated that, on the same date and location he damaged six louvre blades valued at $1,800, property of Onecia Simon.
The eighth charge stated that, on September 26, 2019, at Port Kaituma, he damaged ten louvre blades, valued at $3000, property of Onecia Simon.
The final charge stated that, on June 14, 2019, at Turn Basin Port Kaituma, Simon assaulted Keron Chadnauth.
Simon pleaded not guilty to all eight charges when they were read to him.
According to information presented in court, the young mason was not a flight risk and had no prior convictions. Reports also stated that Simon was severely beaten by the arresting officers, and requested medical attention but was denied.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris made no objection to bail being granted and ordered that Simon lodge his passport at the court and report every Friday to the Port Kaituma police station. Prosecutor Harris also stated that if Simon did not comply with the court’s orders he will be arrested immediately and sent to prison.
The young man was released on $210,000 bail and is to return to court on October 17, 2019.
