THE National Dance Company celebrated 40 years of dance in Guyana on Sunday at the National Cultural Centre with the hosting a thanksgiving service.
Several persons attended for a reflection on this milestone which was made beautiful with numerous performances of dance by the youths who are a part of the company
The National Dance Company was founded on October 1, 1979 under the Direction of Cuban Professor Geraldo Lastra.
Its members have performed in Cuba, St. Lucia, Dominica, Barbados, Trinidad, Canada and more having been trained over the years by Cuban, American and Guyanese Instructors/Choreographers in classical, modern, contemporary, Indian, African and Caribbean dance.
Linda Griffith and Vivienne Daniel, present Director of the Company were members of this first group. The dancers continue to perform exceptionally at various local and international events.
