…as rival gangs target eachother
Gang members of a Cayanne-based Guyanese group allegedly opened fire on a car at Amelia’s Ward, Linden this evening, fatally wounding a man while his girlfriend was critically injured during the attack.
Dead is Eon Williams who is said to be the cousin of Teon Allen, the man targeted by the Cayenne gang.
Reports are that around 2030hrs this evening, Williams and his girlfriend were in a car at Lover’s Lane, Amelia’s Ward when gunmen riddled the car with bullets. Williams reportedly died on the spot while his girlfriend, whose name is being ascertained, was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex for treatment.
In recent weeks, police were called to address the escalating gang violence in the town which has so far resulted in one person being stabbed, a car being torched and threats between the gangs.
Allen, called ‘Spoil Child’, was recently charged with discharging a firearm at two women. The man claimed he was not the person who was seen in video footage carrying out the act. He was released on $500,000 bail.
One of the women is said to be the girlfriend of a gang member of the Cayenne gang and reports tonight’s shooting is seen as a revenge attack, with Allen being the target.
Earlier this month, ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the capital, journeyed to Linden and arrested 14 males who are suspected to be involved in the ongoing gang violence.
Ten of these were subsequently released but four were charged for offences ranging from possession of narcotics and acquiring military clothing from the Guyana Defence Force. These are Adrian Webster, Yuriel Lewis, Rodwell Fraser and Lennox Estwick. Rodwell Fraser was released on $20, 000 bail and Estwick was released on $5, 000 bail. Webster and Lewis were fined $10, 000 in addition to being ordered to conduct community service.
Allen, who is a former policeman, has had several brushes with the law.
In August, 2017, Allen appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, charged with harbouring wanted men – Mark Royden Williams and Uree Varswyck – who broke out of the Camp Street Prison on July 9, 2017.
Police are investigating this evening’s shooting.
