…bus driver in police custody
A fifty-five-year old boat-builder of Dredge Creek in the Upper Pomeroon River, died on Wednesday morning following an accident on the Somerset and Berks Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
Dead is Bridganand Rooplall aka ‘Bridggy’. The accident reportedly occurred around 0840hrs on Wednesday.
The father of three was returning from the Suddie Public Hospital when the accident occurred. According to information reaching Guyana Chronicle, the driver of minibus BPP2790 was heading in a southern direction when the motorist allegedly served into his path.
The man died on the spot, eyewitnesses recalled.
The motorist was riding at a fast rate when he collided with the bus ; he was flung onto the roadway.
“It was a bloody scene, it was right next to the Better Hope Nursery, parents who took their children were in shock to see the horrific smash-up,” Robin Joseph, an eyewitness related.
Son of the deceased, Aaron Rooplall said his father left to visit his grandson at the hospital. He said he received a call from another cousin about the accident. When he arrived he said he saw that his father had suffered massive head injuries.
The man died while receiving treatment at the Suddie Public Hospital. His body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post- mortem examination.
