RESIDENTS of the Joint Service Scheme, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, are calling on the Public Infrastructure Ministry to pave the roadways, especially the area surrounding the Guyana Defence Force veterans’ home.

According to residents, for several years the roadways have been in a deplorable condition and because they area was not handed over to the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) persons, through self-help, maintained the area.

“We all pooled our monies together and brought builders waste to fill the pot holes and build up the roads; this place is in a better position because of this, but we need paved roadways in here,” one woman from Cuyuni Street, Lamaha Springs, said.

She continued: “Even the director of prisons live through here and he has been assisting all he can in maintain the street where we live.”

Another resident said persons from North Sophia are making bridges and entering the community, resulting in many robberies.

Meanwhile, Cabinet had recently approved much-needed upgrades to the road network within Region Four, as indicated in the table.
