A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed on Friday after motor car, PKK 6734, crashed into him on the Garden of Eden Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

Dead is James Augustus of Second Dam, Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara.
Police confirmed that they are investigating the fatal accident which occurred about 22:30hrs Friday night.

Reports indicate that the car was proceeding north along the western carriageway when the pedestrian allegedly ran from East to West into the path of the motor car.
Augustus was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver, a 26-year-old resident of Sarah Johnanna, East Bank Demerara, is in custody assisting with investigation. A breathalyser test was conducted and no trace of alcohol was found.
