LIAT grounds three Guyana flights

TWO incoming flights to Guyana and one out-going for the Regional airline LIAT, were grounded yesterday as the airline took precautionary measures in the wake of the expected passage of tropical storm, Dorian, in the Caribbean on August 26, 2019.

In addition, the regional carrier was also forced to ground 27 flights to destinations within the Caribbean.

The affected flights to Guyana were LI 521 from Barbados to Ogle, Guyana; LI 512 from Ogle, Guyana to Barbados and LI 393 from Barbados to Ogle, Guyana.

A notice on the airline’s Facebook page advised that passengers who decide to travel but are unable to complete their journey due to disruption caused by the weather conditions will not be provided with meals, transportation and hotel accommodation etcetera.
Also, passengers with onward connections are advised to contact the respective regional and international carriers.

Meanwhile, local forecasters have predicted for today, Tuesday, August 26, 2019, generally fair weather over Region One (Barima-Waini), Two (Pomeroon–Supenaam), Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Four (Demerara-Mahaica), Five (Mahaica-Berbice), and Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), according to the Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The department further predicted rainfall between 15.0 millimetres and 30.0 millimetres in Regions Six, Eight and 10, but no significant rainfall in all the other regions.
At 00:41hours, today, high tide measuring an above normal height of 2.75 metres will occur, and again at 14:10 hours reaching a height of 2.63 metres.

Citizens are also advised that an above normal high tide advisory is in effect.
According to a weather brief for Monday, August 26, 2019, the highest rainfall of 58.2 millimetres was recorded at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) in Region Four.
