Deportee guilty of theft to do community service

ON Monday, August 26, 2019, a 38-year-old man was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that, on August 24, 2019, at Regent Street, Ryan Hings stole two bottles of deodorant, valued $1900, from Bounty Supermarket.

He pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

It is noted that, on the day in question, Hings entered the supermarket and was seen acting suspiciously. He was approached and a search was conducted (on him) and the items were found.

The police were called and he was later charged.

Hings was recently deported from French Guiana, after serving time for attempted murder.

Upon his return to Guyana, he learned his mother had died and due to the Statutory Deportation Act, Hings had been unable to get a job.

Magistrate McLennan sentenced him to eight hours of community service.
