Young porter remanded

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, remanded a 20-year-old porter to prison for allegedly killing his drinking partner during an argument.
Kallis Rodrigues appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder.

Particulars of the charge stated that, on August 17, 2019, at Kumaka Water Front, North West District, he murdered Oswald Henry.

The Chief Magistrate remanded Rodrigues to prison until September 30, 2019 and transferred the matter to the Aquiro Magistrates’ Court.

According to reports, on the day in question, Henry, who resided in Moruca, Region One (Barima-Waini), was imbibing with Rodrigues at a shop, when an argument of unknown nature broke out between them around 21:00hrs.

It is alleged that Rodrigues armed himself with a piece of wood and dealt several blows to the victim’s head. Henry fell unconscious after being struck and the suspect fled the scene.
Persons picked up the victim and took him to the Kumaka District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
