Taxi driver charged for sexual assault granted bail

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, released a 39-year-old taxi driver on $100,000 bail for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, in his motor car.
Rohan Singh was hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the matter was heard in camera.

Particulars of the charge alleged that, on May 22, 2019, at Farm, East Bank Demerara (EBD), Singh, touched a 16-year-old girl without her consent.

He was released on $100,000 bail and the matter was adjourned until August 21, 2019.
The Guyana Chronicle was made to understand that the victim was a passenger in Singh’s vehicle which he operates as a taxi.

It is alleged that the teen requested to be taken to the Diamond Hospital, East Bank Demerara. However, Singh allegedly stopped at Farm, EBD and raised up the teen’s shirt while rubbing her belly.

It is further alleged that Singh tried to kiss the teen but she refused. The matter was reported to the police and Singh was arrested.
