–New Mr. Guyana to be crowned
OVER two dozen competitors will take centre stage tonight when the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Inc. (GBBFF) hosts its Senior National Championships at the National Cultural Centre from 19:00hrs.
The event, which is sponsored by Fitness Express, will have a new overall champion, given that Mr. Guyana 2018, Kerwin Clarke, has decided not to compete.
Clarke, who won the competition five times, told Chronicle Sport yesterday that he feels it’s time to give the other bodybuilders a chance at the title. The Space Gym bodybuilder said his focus would remain on international events.
With Clarke out and 2017 champion, Bruce Whatley, now an IFBB Pro, the Mr. Guyana trophy is there to claim. Marlon Bennett (2018 lightweight champion), Caerus Cipriani (2018 welterweight champion), Rhon Lonke and defending heavyweight champion Carlos Petterson Griffith are some of the more prominent names, but with over 15 competitors in the seven bodybuilding categories, predicting a champion would be very difficult this year.
First timers, including Floyd Fabian Roza, are also confident of going all the way.
GOOD BATTLE
President of the GBBFF, Keavon Bess, said that the competition is heated this year.
“The show is going to be a very exciting show for all the different categories. Each category and segment is going to be close. The judges will have their work cut out for them.”
Organising Secretary Videsh Sookram added that the bodybuilding competition is not the only exciting clash. He said that the Mr. Physique and the Ms. Bikini would also be competitive this year.
“The Mr. Physique this year is the most competitive we have ever had.”
Reigning champion Emerson Campbell, who told the media last week that he is happy with his overall package, will be looking to defend his title, but he will have several Space Gym competitors, including his nemesis and former champion, Yannick Grimes, looking to ascend.
Also ready to make their mark will be the 2018 and 2019 Mr. Physique Novice champions, Tariq Dakhil and Delroy Phillips.
Defending champion in the Ms. Bikini competition, Chandani Khan (from Fitness Paradise), will not compete this year, so the title will go to either Space Gym’s Rosanna Fung or gym mate Angela Barroncas.
Fung is the reigning Ms. Bikini Novice, while Barroncas is the 2018 Ms. Bikini runner up.
Tickets are still available for the event and can be bought at participating gyms or at the venue.
Fitness Express, Fast Graphics, Stage of Championships, Digital Technology and Ellies Trading all contributed towards the event.
