IN demonstrating its confidence in Guyana’s economy, the Unicomer Group Inc., under its brands – Courts and Courts Optical – launched its stores at the Giftland Mall on Friday.
Clyde de Haas, Managing Director of Unicomer Group said the opening of the 9th Courts and 5th Courts Optical branches is in keeping with its strategy to ensure that customers’ expectations of convenience are matched.

During the opening ceremony, Director of the Ministry of Business, Dominic Gaskin, said the opening of the stores at Giftland Mall is indeed a presentation of the confidence companies have in the Guyanese Market. He said with the production of oil and gas in 2020, there will be more opportunities for businesses to expand in Guyana.

President of Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Nicholas Boyer congratulated the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Unicomer Guyana for their commitment to growth and expansion, and the delivery of quality products to the people of Guyana.

“Unicomer has been operating in Guyana for over 20 years as one of the largest retailers in the country. In its 20+ years of existence in Guyana, Unicomer has displayed its full confidence in the Guyanese market through constant growth and expansion. We call all agree that in order for a local economy to realise its full potential, the presence of companies like Unicomer is critical as they continue to be a major source of job creation and economic growth,” Boyer said.

He said the company continues to invest in its operations here because it is optimistic about Guyana’s future. As such, he said the Private Sector must continue to advocate for conditions that would encourage investors to exhibit a similar level of confidence in the country.

“Since opening its doors in Guyana, Unicomer has provided employment and training for a large number of the Guyanese through its expansion in areas such as Linden, Parika, Bartica, the Essequibo Coast, Mahaica and New Amsterdam. Most importantly, Unicomer’s foreign direct investment continues to contribute to the growth of the local economy, and ultimately, the overall development of Guyana”, the GCCI President noted.

Noting that the GCCI encourages private companies to give back and fulfill their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Boyer said the chamber is appreciative of companies like Unicomer Guyana that make CSR initiatives a priority. Unicomer has managed to establish itself as a leader in the provision of corporate support in various areas such as education, sports and culture, he added.

Boyer reminded the public of the GCCI’s message to have the government adopt policies that can enable local businesses to have the capacity to make similar investments and take advantage of the opportunities for growth and expansion.

Unicomer Guyana said it will ensure customers enjoy the same great service, product range and affordable payment plans at its Giftland location.
