National cricketer accused of assault granted bail

On Monday August 5, 2019, City Magistrate Sherdel Isccas-Marcus, granted $30,000 bail to a National Cricketer who was accused of assault.

Thirty-two-year-old Christopher Barnwell appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that, on March 25, 2019, at Thomas Lands, he assaulted police officer Trevor Benn.

Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels made no objection to bail being granted to Barnwell and told the court that, on the day in question, Benn was off duty at the time and was in a cricket match in the opposing team against Barnwell’s. The men had an argument; Barnwell became annoyed, and pushed Benn to the ground where he received bruises.
Magistrate Sherdel Isccas-Marcus granted $30,000 bail and adjourned the matter to August 19, 2019.
