Woodlands ex-staff guilty of $1.4M robbery

TWO former Woodlands Hospital employees were on Friday found guilty of staging a $1.4M robbery at the medical institution on August 31, 2017.

Haniff Peters, a security guard of East La Penitence, and Susan Daniels, a cashier of Canal #2 Polder, West Bank Demerara, were on trial before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Daniels was also charged separately for giving false information to the police at the Brickdam Police Station on September 1, 2017; she had alleged that she was robbed, which caused the police to conduct an investigation into the matter. She, however, denied that charge too when it was read to her. She was also found guilty of this offence.
Magistrate McGusty deferred sentencing until August 2, 2019 and remanded the duo to prison.

Particulars of the offence state that on the day in question, Daniels was taking cash from the day’s sales to her supervisor when she alleged that she was robbed by a lone masked man.

The matter was reported to the police and based upon their investigations, it was revealed that the woman and Peters had staged the robbery.
