Dear Editor,
THE Stabroek News of Thursday, June 27, carried an article and photograph of the West Indies Cricket team and management staff currently in England touring what is considered the home of the most famous football team, Manchester United, in Manchester, Old Trafford.
I can imagine how elated and privileged the team felt. You see a lot of West Indian footballers ply their trade in England playing for various clubs in the Elite Premier League and other clubs in the Football Association (F.A.).
For many West Indians, Manchester United holds a special place in our hearts; it was at that club that Trinidadian Dwight Yorke, a household name in the Caribbean; the likes of George Best, Erick Cantana, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Nestle Roy, David Beckham, Christiano Ronaldo, the greatest of them all and also Wayne Rooney, the record goal-scorer for England and the best football coach of all time, Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United, the richest and most talked about and the club with the most silver ware.
For the West Indies team and management staff and coaches, it would be difficult for them to put into words the feeling that overcame them while at that ground in that dressing room, which other great footballers the world over once graced.
Regards
Archie W. Cordis
